A Week of Spring Skiing the Sierra | aka, Best Birthday Ever / by Dani Perrot

Life has been absolutely crazy for both of us since we last posted, beginning with a week-long, figure-it-out-as-you-go trip to ski the record snowpack in the Sierra. A few surprises along the way. :) That's all I'll leave you with. Enjoy some photos. A little short edit is on its way as well.

SNOW DAY 1 | MT. TALLAC (TAHOE)

SNOW DAYS 2 + 3 | TWIN LAKES/HORSE CREEK CANYON

Travelin' to the Eastside...

First attempt at Ski Dreams on Matterhorn Peak: got there a little too late...

Second attempt at Ski Dreams: got there right on time, but it didn't refreeze overnight...

SNOW DAY 4 | BLUE COULOIR (MAMMOTH)

But first: recovery at the Mobile Station, post-fish tacos and burger

Scopin' town lines from the brewery: just the best

REST DAY | DRIVE TO BISHOP, THE BUTTERMILKS, INDEPENDENCE, AND HOT CREEK

Well, we had planned a dope 20ish mile ski loop from Mammoth Mountain to June Mountain and back but then the winds decided to blow all night and the next day at 50-70 mph...so we drove around and looked at stuff instead. Even got in a little Hot Creek fishin'. THEN MA AND PA ARRIVED.

SNOW DAYS 5+6  | LAKE GEORGE/CRYSTAL CRAG TOUR AND MAMMOTH MOUNTAIN

First, went for a tour with Mom and Dad straight from our front door at Tamarack. Mom's first time in a long time touring! Had a wonderful time. Dad and Alex did a lap below Crystal Crag, then we all skied (yes, Mom was making tele turns off-piste no prob) back to the road and back to our cabin at Tamarack. Followed that up with sandwiches on the deck, hot tubbing slopeside below the mountain, and Toomeys. A SOLID DAY.

Next day, Ma and Pa treated us to a day of inbounds skiing at Mammoth. I think it's the best place I've ever skied inbounds. Plus the views of the Minarets are incredible. THANKS MA AND PA!!! Then we soaked again, had dinner, I opened some bday presents, and Ma and I started doing some wedding scheming/worrying. Oh yeah, and I think that was the day Dierker and I went fishing and he caught a bird. Crazy. Da best. Wish I had taken more photos.

SNOW DAY 7 before driving to Utah | SOUTH PEAK (VIRGINIA LAKES)

We got in one more Sierra hot lap before jumping in the car and driving many hours listening to Modern Romance and This American Life. As usual, we were the first ones up and down (although in our defense, the skiing was great and we definitely were not too early), and eating breakfast burritos c/o Ma and Pa in the back of the truck by 9. Amazing trip. By far the best birthday ever.
