Not Spring Yet... / by Dani Perrot

But fingers crossed it will get there before summer does! Headed to Summit County to ski the Silver Couloir on Buffalo Mountain with our friend Andrew from ATC, but while trying to go from the bottom up we found boot to knee deep melt-freeze snow at 7:30 in the morning at the top of the apron. Met stations had shown that it didn't re-freeze significantly even at 12,000 ft in the area on Thursday night, and it clearly hadn't refrozen on Friday night either. With temperatures forecasted to be very warm, we didn't feel comfortable heading up with the threat of wet slides feeling imminent (and the skiing clearly was not going to be fantastic either, at least with as far up as we were likely to get before really needing to head down). After a few turns down the apron and a snack, we headed back up through the dense trees and deadfall and made our way up toward the east slopes of the Buffalo. But by then, we were clearly too late. The snow was deep breakable slush already, so we headed back down toward the car, making serious safety "turns" and trying not to snag a ski tip on down, partially buried trees.

After beers/food in Dillon and the drive back to the Front Range, the three of us took the bus from Boulder to Denver for a Rockies game at Coors Field (Dani's first pro baseball game) for John Proctor's bday. We had a blast drinking beer, eating hot dogs, and hanging out with friends. The only thing missing was t-shirt weather!

Funny. Atypically warm for spring skiing. Atypically cold for baseball. What a "spring" it's been.
