A Backwards Weekend / by Dani Perrot

Had a bit of a backwards weekend during Jan 7-8; after turning around from heading to Berthoud Pass due to stopped traffic on I-70 from LITERALLY TOO MANY PEOPLE GOING SKIING (seriously, no accidents, just people in cars), we headed up to Caribou. Alex, Keith, and Nans had skied after a big storm on Thursday, so we were hoping that the snow would be excellent. Surprisingly, it was pretty bad! Knee breaking crust up at the Anchor Mine. Had to ski where other humans had skied, just to be able to link a few turns.

Sunday morning, Alex headed to SLC for OR, and I headed up Niwot Ridge with D, Ally, and 'Nooks. Given the conditions the previous day, I suggested just going for a mellow skin (also, the weather was pretty snowy and windy). BUT THE SNOW FELT AMAZING!!! Bummer to be at Niwot, no real skiing to be had below treeline. Nevertheless, had a great skin up to the gate and surprisingly fun turns all the way down the road without hitting a single rock.

Backwards.
