Shavano and Tabegauche, 7|26|2015 / by Dani Perrot

A nice morning outside of Salida, jiking Shavano and Tabagauche and back at the car before noon. Not bad for 5400+ ft of vertical gain!

The night before, we rallied the Prius up to the trailhead (getting many wary looks from high-clearance-vehicle owners) and snagged a pretty little campsite in a meadow surrounded by aspen. The next morning, we set a brisk pace and didn't stop until we were on top of Shavano. It was really nice to tag the Shavano summit, after skiing from approximately 800 ft below the summit on the Angel of Shavano last winter. We definitely kept the pace up the rest of the morning, since the weather was looking a bit unsettled. We even saw a mountain goat (not pictured). Overall, a beautiful few hours in the mountains.
