Code Name Wind Burn: Hidden Valley/Loveland Pass / by Dani Perrot

On Saturday, Dani, Shane, and I headed up to Hidden Valley to ski some of the spring storm that hit the Front Range last week. As usual, the accumulation wasn't near as much as predicted and there was a fun melt-freeze crust to contend with, but it was a blast to turn the legs over and introduce Shane to another mid winter zone we ski frequently. Seems like most people have switched to the mountain bike so it was a quiet and mellow Saturday, but we definitely earned our bacon wrapped jalapeños.

On Sunday, team FOCO linked up with our friend Ally at the Dinosaur Lots and headed up to Loveland Pass to see if we could find a bit better skiing higher and to the South. As we headed out the ridge towards Cupid Peak it was looking grim. The clouds were lingering and a stiff wind was blowing...but we were rewarded for our perseverance and found wind blown pow on NE/E facing aspects. We definitely got our money's worth and slept hard Sunday night. Great to get out with Shane and Ally and get some fun turns in. The mountains haven't stuck to a seasonal flip quite yet and we were pleasantly surprised by the conditions we found. You don't know unless you go!
